Work Out Wednesday – Push Ups

The Who, What, Where, When & Why of my fitness regime

Push Ups

Push ups are one of the most important exercises in my arsenal.  With proper technique, they can help you to build a stronger upper body, and add definition to your arms, chest, and back.

Push ups involve horizontal flexion of the shoulder joint and extension of the elbow, which utilizes the pectorals major, anterior deltoid, and triceps respectively.  When you perform push ups, your abdominal muscles keep your spine rigid, while the hip flexor muscles – the iliopsoas – and the quadriceps of the thighs hold your legs in place.

*Place your arms shoulder width apart, thumbs lined up with your underarms.

*From there, take up plank position, keeping your body in one line, from your head, to your toes.

*Lower your body down to the floor, and push straight back up.

*Remember to breathe 😉
