Work Out Wednesday – Kick It

The Who, What, Where, When & Why of my fitness regime

Kick It

“You think anybody wants a roundhouse kick to the face while I’m wearing these bad boys”

I’ve tried the odd bit of martial arts training in the past, namely Jiu Jitsu, boxing, karate, MMA, and even Tae Bo.  Some of these classes were technical, while others were simply combat flavoured cardio classes.

Kickboxing is an aerobic activity that works your entire body, strengthening muscles, and improving cardio vascular conditioning.  It can improve balance and flexibility.

Here are some fitness facts on Kickboxing
*The average woman (5’5 130 lbs) can burn between 350 and 450 calories per hour
*Kickboxing teachers advocate technique and discipline, which intensifies the work out by making you “think” your way through the movements.

Towards the end, they hit us with some basic strength and conditioning training, including pushups, squats, and everyone’s favourite- burpees.

At the very end of class, we did a breathing exercise that’s meant to signify

Mind
Body
Spirit

Stay tuned, we will be trying our hand at some proper combat training, and grappling later this month.

Do you love it?!?
