For this post I am amending my usual request of “Take me to the dessert” to “Take me to the desert”, and here’s why…
The Mojave Room is a women owned cosmetic tattooing business in San Luis Obispo, California. Created by some of my favourite people, the space offers microblading, lash services, reconstructive tattooing, and good vibes. (There is also a private studio for the very talented artist and all around rad Dad Jake Schroeder.
“Our goal is to provide a comfortable and inclusive place for EVERYONE. At The Mojave Room we believe that your character is all that matters. Not what you look like. Not what people say about you. Not who you love or how much money you make. Not the color of your skin or the number on the scale. When you’re here – you’re family.”
Today’s smart, hard-working, inclusive, and forward thinking ladies build businesses for themselves. They create opportunities for one another, while showing love, and sharing resources with others. They are outspoken, unpopular, and they don’t care what you think.
When asked to join this photoshoot I said, “Why do you want me there? I don’t work here. I live in Canada!” The reply I received was “Because you’re family.” It was an invitation from people I care about because they in turn, care about me, and value my contribution. It was can important reminder that real friendship spans miles, navigates change, and withstands the test of time. In a year like this one, it was something I needed to hear more than I knew.
