In earlier shoots Allan asked me what cards I might like to be a part of. In this case, Allan picked the card. As my friend, he knew what I had been experiencing and felt that his interpretation of the Six of Swords would fit my current journey very well.
The 6 of Swords is an evolutionary card. It represents energy being moved from one place to another. In the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition, the 6 of Swords features a woman and child being ferried across water, in a boat. The figure who steers the vessel faces away from the viewer. This can be taken to mean that the passengers are not in control of their journey, or perhaps they are uncertain of what their final destination will be. In Heretical Fates, this card features a solitary figure (me!) walking a tightrope. Sword in hand, I reach towards the end of my journey. Perhaps I am reaching for the end of the rope, or maybe I will take up the remaining swords. In either case, the decision is my own.
Earlier in the month, my dear friend Tea met with Allan at our fave haunt in downtown LA. Tea offered her assistance with Allan’s yet to be shot cards, providing feedback and inspiration for those he had yet to art direct. From this shoot we uncovered the cards that Tea herself would shoot, and a fun Heretical Fates cameo for me!
You have no idea how excited I was to feature my right hand, the one that says “cup” in a Cups card. “Too excited” some might say… But they would of course be wrong.
Do you love it?!?
